Effective communication of nurses depends on their ability to recognise, express and empathise emotions. Deficiencies in these skills may negatively affect the quality of patient care. Alexithymia is a problem in recognising and expressing emotions and may negatively affect empathy. Although there are studies on empathy and communication skills of nurses, research focusing on alexithymia is limited. Alexithymia is common among students and may lead to health concerns and online health information searches. In Turkey, online health searches are high and this situation increases health anxiety. This study aims to evaluate the alexithymia and cyberchondria levels of nursing students and to understand their effects on health service delivery. These evaluations may contribute to the training of students as more effective and empathic health professionals.
